Quinta da Romaneira has a history dating back to 1757, the year of its official registration during the Pombaline demarcations, although the vineyards were planted several decades earlier. In the 19th century, it stood out for producing high-quality wines, being referenced by contemporary authors and producing the first Single Quinta Ports ever auctioned internationally. In the 20th century, Arnaldo Dias Monteiro de Barros expanded the estate, making it one of the largest in the Douro. In the 21st century, Christian Seely acquired Romaneira in 2004, initiating extensive renovation and replanting, and in 2012 André Esteves became the principal shareholder. Today, Quinta da Romaneira, covering 412 hectares with over 3 km of riverfront, is recognized among the elite producers of Douro wines and Ports, preserving historic vineyard plots that retain the names of the pre-phylloxera estates.
