Founded in 1954 by a group of 100 winegrowers, Adega de Cantanhede currently has 500 active winegrowers and an annual production of 6 to 7 million kilograms of grapes. It is the leading producer in the Bairrada Demarcated Region, representing approximately 40% of the region's overall production. It currently certifies approximately 80% of its production and is a clear leader in sales of Bairrada DOC and Beira Atlântico IGP wines.
Recognizing the enormous competitiveness existing in the national and international markets, the qualitative evolution of its wines is the result of the most modern technology, with a focus on quality and food safety, but also of the promotion of Portuguese grape varieties, which has always guided its strategy, particularly the traditional Bairrada varieties – Baga, Bical and Maria Gomes – but also of other Portuguese grape varieties that find in Bairrada a terroir of choice, such as Touriga Nacional, Aragonez and Arinto, as it believes in the unequivocal potential for differentiation and singularity that this heritage confers on its wines.
