The history of Sandeman began in London. In 1790, the young Scotsman George Sandeman bought his first cellar in the city and started operations in Porto. In 1811, Sandeman purchased an aging cellar in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the banks of the Douro River. The Sandeman brand has been registered since 1877 and is one of the oldest brands in the world.
